Most of our members play Concert Flutes but we are fortunate to have one bass flute player, two alto flute players, two piccolo players and some members who themselves or their partners play other instruments. Although we are essentially a flute group, when giving concerts we sometimes include the skills of partners or family members to add variety to the programme. Over the years CAFÉ has been fortunate to have several musicians writing / arranging or acquiring music for the group and as a result CAFÉ now has a repertoire ranging from baroque to modern compositions. Jenny Rees composed and arranged a piece specifically for CAFÉ entitled “Deep in the forest” – a group favourite that has become very popular with our audiences. One of our members for many years, the late Peter Stanton, also arranged several pieces for CAFÉ, and his two compositions “Stepping Out” and “Tango” have been well received in our concerts. Peter’s music continues to be played by CAFÉ with the kind permission of his family. |

| Deep in the Forest | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Inspired by visits to the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, this piece conveys the tranquility and beauty of a forest environment. The first movement describes a journey into the forest, becoming surrounded by nature and bird song. Arriving at a clearing, the second movement depicts the peace found in a moment's rest and reflection. This moment is magically interrupted in the third movement by the arrival of elves darting and dancing amongst the trees, unaware of the observer. Deep in the Forest is for a flute choir consisting of piccolo, 3 flutes, alto flute (with alternative fourth flute part) and bass flute and is in three movements. For players of grade 4 to 6 standard. Published & distributed by Creighton's Collection and is supplied with one each of: Score Piccolo (doubling Flute) Flute 1, 2 & 3 Alto Flute (plus alternative Flute 4) Bass Flute for £15.00 + p&p.
